I cannot imagine that Germany has such office. I am not sure if gov knows the Ausländersamt is one important window to the world. But unfortunately I cannot even reach the „window“ with waiting for 1hr over the phone call. It is also strange that they have booking system but stop using it! Why? People pay lots of tax to gov to build a system but it is stopped... I cannot imagine Essen, as a big city in Germany cannot provide “BASIC” service to foreigners. How to compete with other countries to attract high tech people?

Worst people you can deal with, they treat you like a criminal, they are the foreign authority yet refuse to speak English. They make you feel you are lower than them, they have lot of load as Essen is a huge city yet they don't increase the number of employees, you need to wait hours before they pick up and close the line in your face.

as a student, i went under so many pressure. very impolite and rude employees. and it took 3 months for giving me an appointment which made me quite restricted for all these time. i would never recommend this city to anyone.

Welcome to Germany\ is best experienced here. The Federal German Govt. wants to sell the myth of \Welcoming Germany\ to rest of the world - honestly why does Germany want an accolade that it doesn't deserve in the first place? They treat foreigners like criminals, the system is completely conceived and devised to stonewall the foreigners and make them look cheap. For a foreigner It takes one year(only if you slog and run after them) to get yourself registered in Essen! The bouncers at the entrance won't let even a single foreigner in come what may, the normal prescribed procedure of getting an appointment through email doesn't work, no one responds even after 4 months, if you call them you need to skip work for a day waiting on line! I waited for 4 hrs and the phone line went off with no one responding costing me one holiday. As a foreigner one should avoid moving to Essen at all costs! if you are already in Essen then please get out as soon as possible. The staff at Ausländerbehörde can make you look worthless, they can rob your decency, they can inflict great psychological pain and damage. Foreigners please keep Essen off your radar (perhaps this is what they secretly want to achieve!). I think they do all this purposely to get rid of foreigners. One again Welcome to Germany! Welcome to Essen!

probably the worst ever public authority i have ever witnessed. response to phone calls is very rude. you have to wait for a minimum of 1 hour to get connected with an employee to get hung up on the face just like that. and what kind of foreign authority in the world insists the people to speak only in the native language? in order to get an appointment you need to write an email and you would get a response in 3 to 4 months. definitely a nightmare place for students. you need to have a lot of patience and time when you are going for visa extension, city registration, work permit etc.
