Extensive museum built on the site of the old coal mine Anna. Informative. Most of the collection is on coal mining, giving a good impression of this now obsolete activity. But other energy forms are also covered, in particular sustainable energy. Many interactive displays that are fun for children. Spacious grounds. During fair weather you can go up one of the tailing hills (Halde); we did not. Good restaurant.

Nice concept and interesting flow to simulate entering a mine. Goid history lessons presented. Interactive exibits for alternative energy sources.

Very cool museum giving a good impression on how mining was in the early days and how it evolved trough the year. Interesting and interactive, for young and old. Took us about 2 hours to go round. There is one additional building that is only open every 2nd saturday at 2 PM for a tour. We were there at a little before 2PM on a 2nd saturday of the month and nobody told us this was even possible. We found out at the end of the parcours when we wanted to enter the building and saw the sign on the door.

Food was excellent, staff too.

Interesting look at the coal industry in Germany. However, the exhibit is no where near balanced, as there is literally no mention of nuclear power any where. Note the exhibits are described in German and Dutch only, although much of the museum did not require explanation.

If you want to get real insights into stone coal mining (untertage Steinkohleabbau) and the working conditions of miners, this is the museum to go to. Also, if you want to get an insight into regenerative energy transformation and climate change, this museum and its interactive exhibits have a lot to offer. My children 8, 11, and 13, my sister (52) and I (48) really loved this place. Last, but not least it represents a huge part of Germany's post-war history and the Wiederaufbau - reconstruction. The human suffering of the coal miners, their working and living conditions, and the multitude of health risks are also empathetically addressed.
