Good for kids
Closed but it's been a pleasure to be visiting this place. You can always walk around and the pictures are special. History here is so heavy...The special thing is that you can go down the stairs in the middle of the tiny town and enjoy the view of the castle. The snow is transforming this area...it's fantastic. Parking lot not so big.

Colditz Castle was an interesting stop for us. The history is worth learning about, and the castle is a beautiful sight. I do wish more of the castle was open to explore, but I felt it was worth the stop.
This was a fantastic morning with Alex the tour guide. He was amazing, entertaining and very informative. Alex is an Polish German English man, I think, so he knew so much about the castle and its incredible history. We were particular interested in the POW camp and the escapes. We were one of the successful ones. Incredible. Thank you Alex.
Interesting historical site authentic German architecture in the village surrounding the castle. Make sure you read the book before hand!
Very nice place! I visited the Schloss after having read P.R. Reid's books, so it was very interesting. Due to a lack of tourists (corona) the English tour didn't happen, but the guide kindly repeated bits I couldn't follow in English. Only the chapel and the glider rooms were open (apart from the escape museum and the memorial), as the castle was under renovations. The Escape Museum alone is worth a visit, but you can't visit the rest of the castle without a guide. Very pleasant staff.
