The Graduate School of Excellence "Materials Science in Mainz" (MAINZ) is an international PhD program which focuses on graduate training through excellence in research in the fields of functional polymers, model systems and correlated materials, hybrid structures and bio-related materials. Our graduate school is an international PhD program, which will give you the benefit of PhD training conducted in English. During a PhD in MAINZ you will profit from training through research and training for life. The training of MAINZ is designed to incite our students’ enthusiasm for fundamental research in materials science and to prepare them for a future career. To achieve this goal, we aim at providing a most flexible and individually tailored training program, offering our PhD students a training structure that can be adapted to their individual career needs. MAINZ provides a comprehensive graduate program combining two elements: Training through Research and Training for Life. Training through Research provides in-depth, interdisciplinary training at the bench complemented by specialized training within our research areas. Research training focuses on four main technical training areas. Training for Life provides MAINZ PhD students with complementary technical, business, and cultural competencies needed for their future career. MAINZ offers a wide range of complementary competencies and skills courses. mentMAINZ fosters career orientation through a 12-month mentoring relationship between the mentee and a mentor coming from private economy, the public sector or academia depending on mentee´s plans.
