Full range of Italian civil servant hell. Nobody will ever pick up the phone. Nobody will ever answer an email. Nobody has any idea about procedures and they are just human links to the website. Once Italians get a job in the government, they consider themselves on life long vacation.

Good luck if you want to apply for citizenship here, even if it is your right. They do not tell you exactly what you need from the beginning, and will not keep up with your case once it is submitted. The woman in the citizenship office seemingly takes a sick pleasure from giving bad news.

I went there to renew my expired Italian Passport and they told me that I needed my Ex-Wife approval in order for them to give me a new passport. ( what?!!!! is that even legal???) They also made fun of me for being an Italian Citizen and non being able to speak Italian. I am an American/Italian Citizen. People were extremely rude and don't even speak German. They only speak Italian. If you live and work in Germany shouldn't you speak German? This is a horrible place. I would rather get all my limbs ripped apart than to deal with these people.

When calling the citizenship office, the first thing that you are told (in a belittling way) when you ask to communicate in English is that you have no business calling them if you don't speak Italian. This followed by being sarcastically asked if getting assistance is faster in your home country, and being laughed at. Finally, you are not even allowed to state the reason why you called, or even finish a single sentence. Avoid if possible, I am considering going to another consulate in search for better service. I feel completely humiliated.

Ottima esperienza. Entrato alle 9.00 ed alle 9.29 sono uscito con il mio nuovo passaporto in mano. Bisogna prenotarsi online e si va. Personale gentile e disponibile.
