"Bàmunan ye Bamako" (Bambara: "a baby-sling for Bamako") is a private initiative with the goal to support the orphanage „La Pouponnière“, which is the only public orphanage in Bamako, the capital of Mali. Due to the insufficient financial support, the financing of the orphanage relies for the most part on foreign donations. Currently, the orphanage is facing severe consequences resulting from a legal ban of international adoptions since 2012. The orphanage is suffering from a massive lack of public and medical necessities. There is not enough financial capacity to pay for children carers, nutrition and medicine. The children are suffering from bad health and negligence. The mortality rate has risen significantly. This is why the orphanage needs help now more than ever and why the initiative was founded to support the orphanage.
