Very special place, the empanadas were so good, freshly prepared and tasty! Value for money.

My type of coffee shop. Chilled vibe with good music and atmosphere. Enough space inside and out. Also nice to just enjoy a good cuppa and do some reading.

Since I live nearby I went there for a drink. The place was empty, there were like 4 occupied tables outside, yet service was incredibly poor, the waiter only came once a lady from another table went inside to ask to order. My girlfriend has a Mojito, which was plain awful. And obviously only cash payments are accepted.. typical for Germany. But yet not acceptable in 2020..

I would describe the place as hip. We had the brunch, they offered a couple of dishes and replaced them, when empty with new (different) dishes. The quality of the food was very good. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, as the place as really booked out. The place is rather small, but very neat. The price was appropriate (14,80 for brunch, 2,80 for cappuccino).

Let this be clear: I loved the food in Cafe Babel's Saturday buffet. It was truly a great find for me. That said, the friend who went with me is allergic to some types of nuts- hazelnuts, walnuts, etc., and he unknowingly consumed at least walnuts here. Many of the dishes offered on the buffet had walnuts in them, which we found out a little too late, and these were not dishes where one would traditionally think to look for them if you have an allergy. For example, a curry chili rice, breakfast pie, noodle salad, and brownies all contained walnuts in the mixture. We checked the brownies and found them, but not the damn rice dish or noodle salad... On the basis of quality and staff I would give them full marks, but it's simply unacceptable that there were ZERO indications for allergens. It is my hope that Cafe Babel takes this review (as well as other direct communication with them) seriously and changes something, as this is a potentially dangerous liability that is quite easy to address. Edit: spoke with a very nice manager and he was also unhappy with this! He wants to more clearly communicate allergen information, probably with a sign, and I'm confident that he'll do so. With this and the really damn good food in mind I've got no problem changing this to a five star review.
