Karolinenpl. 1
N/A
There is an interesting landmark to see at Karolinenplatz. It is the 29 metre tall bronze obelisk which commemorates the 30,000 Bavaria soldiers that died during Napoleon's failed invasion of Russia in 1812-13. The obelisk was designed by German architect Leo von Klenze and was interestingly cast from captured Turkish guns from the Battle of Navarino in 1827. It is dark in colour from this material. At the base you will find memorial inscription and leafy garlands ornamentation, as well as a three step marble platform for which the obelisk stands upon. The landmark is surrounded by grass and flowerbeds and circled by tram lines which pass through small Karolinenplatz. The flowers give colour to this small square, making it nice to enjoy the obelisk during summer months.

Even do it's a nice monument, I'm not a fan of obelisks, 'cause they remind me on all that secret societies around the world, like masons, illuminati etc...
Nice place to sit and chill, while watching trams and the world go by
