This monument stands in tribute to Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, a Prussian field marshal who was best known for generalship during the Napoleonic Wars and his great contribution at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. This monument depicts Blucher in his field marshals uniform standing over a capture French cannon. In his right hand, he holds a sabre in reference to his previous commands of the cavalry. This statue stands part of a triple ensemble of monuments that includes Duke of York and Marshal Gneisenau. They being other leaders of the allied side against Napoleonic France.

Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher war ein preußischer Generalfeldmarschall zur Zeit der Befreiungskriege. Blüchers und Wellingtons Sieg in der Schlacht von Waterloo hatte 1815 den endgültigen Sturz Napoleons zur Folge und machte beide zu den populärsten Kriegshelden in Europa.
