One of Cologne's 12 Romanesque churches, dating back to the 10th century. Very near the Cathedral. Impressive stained glass windows. Attractive and quiet. Hauptbahnhof U-bahn station.

The Church of St. Andrew is an interesting Romanesque church located in the old town. First built in the 10th century, it wasn’t rebuilt in the Romanesque until the 12th century. It’s not much to look at from the outside. Inside the church has some points of interest. The church has a crypt with the remains of the 13th-century theologian and natural philosopher St. Albertus Magnus, stored in a stone sarcophagus. There’s also a reliquary gilded with copper. , known as the Maccabee shrine. According to tradition is said to contain relics of the seven holy Maccabee brothers and their mother Salome. The interior also has some a mix of pretty contemporary and traditional stained glass windows. As befits a church dedicated to Saint Andrew, there’s sculptures and paintings depicting the saint and the X cross associated with him. Including a painting of his crucifixion. Not a must see, but worth a lot time permitting.

OK I was visiting and mass started. I took a seat on the back row. No pocketbook on site. A woman came in and gave me the biggest \get the hell out of my spot look\. I waited a minute after she sat on the other side and moved. I'm glad it was not my grave, bam she jumped in that spot. After 45 minutes and people still coming in, I left.

Peaceful and holy. These two words best describe this place. Located near to the Cologne cathedral, this place can be missed by eyes if not paid attention. Spent approx 20-30 mins relishing this church. One of the go-to places in Cologne.
