In 1996, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List of culturally important sites. In 2004, it was placed on the "World Heritage in Danger" list, as the only Western site in danger, due to plans to construct several high-rise buildings nearby, which would have visually impacted the site. The cathedral was removed from the list in 2006, following the authorities' decision to limit the heights of buildings constructed near and around the cathedral...

It's effin enormous with incredibly beautiful architecture all-throughout. The size of the DOM is almost overwhelming, good thing you're in Germany so you can down a nice cold beer to bring you back down to earth. Shout out to the angels up there.

An enormous and beautiful cathedral of Köln. It is like a symbol of the Köln City itself a must visit place in the city. This place is right next to the Hauptbahnhof (Central Station). This cathedral is visible from a long distance and looks stunning no matter from which side or angle you are looking it . The main market is close to it as well which is also a good place to visit. Overall you can't miss this place.

One of the tallest cathedrals in Deutschland. Visited this during the Christmas of 2012. The weihnachtsmarkt is organized beside the cathedral...and is very beautiful....a MUST visit.

Beautiful cathedral. Probably the only thing to see in Cologne. Unique architecture, and quite tall. Visible from pretty much anywhere. Artistic facades on the outside, and grand and spacious from the inside. Definitely visit this for a great experience. Highly recommended.
