I would like first to mention that my review may seem to be long but my experience at this school language was exceptional. I have been around in a few language schools and I can tell that DeutscheCafe is one of the best in Freiburg. The Teacher Gerel, who is also the owner is a passionate fantastic person. But before to talk about subjective let begin with some objective view. The content of the class is excellent, Gerel makes it enjoyable, and make sure you do speak and write some high class German, she will also in a very lovely way improve all your mistakes, she has any tolls to make you learn effective and enjoy German. Because the size of the class is very limited, you get all the attention of the Teacher. I have to be honest, you can't find the same anywhere else. I have done a B1 normal group class and because I did not have plenty of time ahead a 5-week B2 private class before to take the B2 exam. Likewise, I could not be better prepared for the exam, I passed it with excellent results and furthermore my skills in German did improve exponentially (I don't want to say that she makes magic because I did my part of the job by learning). Gerel makes you feel very like home in her school, I can only recommend her 200%

First of all the school has a new owner, so the previous negative feedback doesn't apply anymore. I have attended intensive courses from A2 to B2 and I was really happy about them. Courses were challenging, well made, held at a good rhythm and interesting. I've learned, met new friends and had fun, all for a very good price. Kevin
I have been attending this school since October, they truly put their heart and soul in teaching and support their students. the classroom feels like a second home. They helped me with the accomodation as well and I am very grateful. Definitely recommend if you want to truly learn the language and to practise speaking at daily basis. You will get your money's worth and more as they are more than just a school, they truly help you learn and adapt to the life here.
I have been attending Deutsch Cafe's classes since last September. I have completed an intensive A2 course, a night class for B1 level, an intensive B2 course, and at the moment over ZOOM I am in the process of completing a C1 night class. The management has changed since I started and the school is now owned by Gerel as of the beginning of this year. I can honestly say that my experience has been a completely positive one. Gerel is a great teacher who focuses just as much on grammar and reading as she does on pronunciation. She is professional, considerate, and energetic: She has organized so many extracurricular activities where students spend time together and learn the language through trips, movies, and tandem evenings. The classes are also very reasonably priced given all that they offer: handouts, extra exercises, and most importantly, a teacher that gives you her all. Even the virtual classes that are happening on ZOOM at the moment, are a good learning experience and include all the activities (group work, hearing exercises, text analysis...) that a normal class has. Don't hesitate to join our family :)
(Review might be long, but I wanted to be precise :)) I would like to sincerely recommend Deutschcafe. I completed an intensive B2 course and now continue attending intensive C1 course – due to the current situation- online. After completing B2 course I decided to keep going with my German at Deutschcafe for several reasons. First and foremost- the teacher, Gerel, who is in charge of Deutschcafe. She is competent, thanks to her linguistic education, professional and which is not always obvious- knows how to teach. She knows how to guide you, how to correct your mistakes, and which tips to give, so you can truly improve your language skills and move forward. Specifically in German there are so many little things to watch out, and she does it, so eventually, you also do. The groups are small- this is a unique situation when you can benefit from teamwork as well as a decent amount of attention from the teacher, so you can be corrected and guided individually. Also a little word about online form. I was extremely skeptical about how I would be able to gain anything from meeting online. How wrong was I! Obviously it has got its drawbacks, it is pretty demanding to be on alert wearing your headphones for few hours a day (in case you go for the intensive course), but as it turned out it has got ist bright sights as well. After a while you get used to meeting online and you learn as much as during „offline“ classes at school- Gerel manages it well. I have noticed that since only one person can talk at the same time (due to the voices overlapping) and the fact that we are alone in the room with our computer, the focus comparing to the usual class is greater and you get to speak as much or more than during the usual class. All of the teaching techniques were fluently adapted to the classes online – working in pairs, listening, visuals- everything J I hope my recommendation will help someone with the decision, cheers!
Thumbs up! Highly recommended! The best german language institute in Freiburg without a doubt! I have participated in A2, B1 and B2 courses in Deutsche Cafe. Our teacher, Gerel, is an amazing teacher. She is very helpful and kind. The classes are very flexible. Besides learning German, we had a lot of social activities like cooking, watching movies in evenings, excursions and etc. The location is also great, Just in the heart of the city!
I definitely recommend this institute to anyone who wants to improve your German quickly! I took B2 course every morning for 6 weeks. The lecturer devotes herself for students to improve their German. She has such creative ideas in teaching and does many experimental stuffs, which I have never done before but are always helpful. I have lived in Freiburg for 2 years and leaned also in many other institutes. And among them, this was the best experience!
A really excellent school with high-quality teaching, a great atmosphere and good value for money. I came for just a short time but extended because it was so effective in building my confidence in speaking and I learnt so much. 100% recommend!
