These people are total gatekeepers. The only art supply store in Freiburg and they require you to have a members card that they only give to people who can prove they studied art or are already successful artists. That just goes completely against the spirit of art itself. They call themselves a wholesaler, but their prices are more expensive than online prices. I traveled almost an hour to get here and was rejected by the very unfriendly cashier lady, because I couldn't prove I'm an \official\ artist. Curse this place. Avoid and buy your supplies online!

The prices can not compete with online supplies. Yes there are many things to buy. HOWEVER if you don't belong to the world of art you can not buy without a membership card. I saw many things from Frinda Kahlo. Me and her share the same culture and passion for painting, and is so ironic that as as Selbständig they turn backs on you. I just say shame on this store, shame on their prices and shame on the employees, most of all disappointment on that potential. I knew a man that wanted to be an artist: a painter whose dream was cracked because was not \artistic\ enough..He was rejected.. then he became crazy and invaded Poland years later.

I cried out after 3 hours shopping choosing all of my stuffs and it ended up by the accountant saying that only selling for ones who self employ :(((. All of good mood was ruined. I was crying when going out. I travelled an hour to Freiburg, shopped 2.5h and ended up with nothing and empty mood. However I would say it is the lovely place for art supplies. Huge and variety of things/ colors. I think the brush area could be improved with more brands and high quality , imported brushes.

For discerning art professionals, this store has no equal in the region. A great selection of supplies from graphic design markers to pigments and patinas, and even fine gold leaf as well as other essential wares of every kind such as best in class chisels and specialty paper. Plan on spending a couple of hours minimum so you can also have a look at the bookstore. However, a store card delivered only to accredited professionals is required for purchasing.
